Sustainable Capitalism

There is still hope for capitalism.

It is time to say goodbye to our current brand of capitalism where the pursuit of more and more efficient ways to boost profit is unrelenting.  Failing to do so, Arai argues, will reliably lead us to another collapse similar to that of the Lehman Brothers.

The Zen of Eating

The Zen methods from the 700-year old Eihei Temple.  A young monk, who is currently spreading the word of Zen in Berlin, talks about the Buddhist traditions of cooking, eating, and cleaning up, and how they can calm your heart and your soul.

There has been an emphasis on eating since the very beginning of the Soto school of Zen Buddhism.  To be clear though, this doesn’t simply mean that there is an emphasis on food itself.  The preparation, the way you eat, and the way you clean up after meals are all part of what Zen monks refer to as shoku.  The Zen way of shoku is studied and followed just as rigorously as they study sacred texts.

So why all the attention to meals?  Because putting your body and mind at ease while creating harmony with your surroundings is the very foundation of Zen.  The young Zen monk, who is now living and teaching in Europe, will introduce the way of shoku, and will show us how we can apply it to our own lives.
